GOOD NEIGHBOR PROGRAM (GNP)
A leadership development program of the Attitudinal Healing Connection, Inc.
Since 2009, AHC, offered and innovative program called the Good Neighbor Program (GNP) in partnership with the Oakland Housing Authority. Its powerful curriculum, grounded in the principles of Attitudinal Healing, is designed to uplift the base in our culture. The GNP offers two curriculums for personal and community change: The Neighborhood Orientation Workshop (NOW) and the Neighborhood Leadership Institute (NLI). Since 2014 both programs have transformed the lives of more than 3000 individuals. created and currently implements an innovative program known as the Good Neighbor Program (GNP). Now is a workshop for every neighborhood, but is was particularly designed for families dealing with issues of poverty. It works to inform citizens about the resources that are within their grasp and encourages community building, service learning, core values, civic engagement and how to access Housing and Urban Development resources. The NLI is an in-depth 12-week leadership development seminar that acknowledges and supports visionary and committed people who are already making extraordinary contributions to their communities. The NLI supports the practical applications of Attitudinal Healing as transformative tools for inner work, leadership skills, civic engagement, mentoring, practical employment skills and restorative justice. Both programs are Attitudinal Healing innovations.
1. Neighborhood Orientation Workshop (NOW)
NOW is a 4-hour workshop for citizens that offers training in community building, core values, civic engagement and other opportunities OHA offers, such as resources and service learning.
2. Neighborhood Leadership Institute (NLI)
The Neighborhood Leadership Institute was conceptualized as a means to support Oakland residents to build their inner transformational tools, skills, service learning and resources in order to create more positive communities, schools and safe neighborhoods for themselves and their families, despite the negative influences and challenging circumstances many of them experience.
OAKLAND PARENT ACTION NETWORK (OPAN)
In collaboration with community-based organizations working in schools, and the parents of ArtEsteem children, AHC has deepened its connection with the parents of Oakland Schools. AHC supports self-selected parent leaders whose mission is to be informed about the policies that affect the academic lives of their children. Through this work parents learn the importance of being engaged in schools and the power that parents have to create schools that work for the academic excellence of all children. These parents focus is on improving school climate, truancy, literacy and assuring that all schools in their neighborhoods have qualified teachers and administrators.
